The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, through its Road Safety Department, has held a meeting with road safety stakeholders to report on road safety campaigns carried out during the Easter holidays.
The department indicated that, road accidents and fatalities continue to rise annually. Maseru district recorded the highest number of accidents and deaths, while Quthing had the lowest.
It was also revealed that, most of those involved in road accidents, are young people between the ages of 31 and 40, followed by those aged 41 to 50-with the majority being women.
The department reported that, while the total number of road accidents remained the same as last year at 266, the number of deaths decreased slightly from 26 to 23. However, injuries rose significantly from 109 to 174.
