Phapano agrees to answer questions on Lesotho Electricity Company.

Following his earlier hesitation, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Tankiso Phapano has now agreed to answer questions from the Public Accounts Committee. These questions stem from the Auditor General’s report on the Lesotho Electricity Company-LEC.

Phapano had initially refused to testify, citing serious safety concerns. He revealed that, a member of his staff was previously shot inside his office; an incident that has left him fearing for his own life. Phapano stressed that, his top priority is ensuring the safety of both himself and his employees.

In his testimony, Phapano clarified that, the Lesotho Electricity Company- LEC, is a state-owned enterprise headed by a Chief Officer, adding that, LEC reports directly to its shareholders, and that, the Principal Secretary is not involved in its day-to-day operations.

Lesotho Defence Force-LDF paid tribute to its fallen heroes at the Khutsong Military Cemetery within Ratjomose Barracks today. The commemoration united service members, families and the community to honour those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Chief of Human Resource and Administration Major General ‘Matumelo Ramoqoopo paid homage to the fallen noting that, every year on June 30th, they remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, whether in war, conflict, or tragic accidents. She emphasised that, the ceremony is a moment of prayer with grieving families, seeking solace and support. Sekhoane Motseki, the son of the late Corporal Motseki, expressed his deep appreciation for such uplifting commemorative events and the warm reception extended to bereaved families.

Lieutenant Gen Mojalefa Letsoela showed that, this day is officially recognized as National Armed Forces Day on the LDF calendar. He explained that, an upside-down weapon symbolizes the honouring of fallen heroes. Additionally, he announced a significant change in which he said, starting next year, the ceremony will be held at a designated venue rather than at the cemetery, with details to be confirmed later.
