The European Union in Lesotho has hosted a special luncheon to honour its local partners. The event brought together alumni of the European Union Visitors Programme-EUVP, and participants from recent regional journalism training sessions held in Brussels, Belgium.
The luncheon welcomed several key government officials, including members of parliament who have participated in these EU-sponsored initiatives. Among the notable guests was Relebohile Lebeta, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources, who is a proud EUVP alumnus.
Kaja Kallas-the Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, described the EUVP as a flagship diplomatic initiative. She stated that, the programme is designed to deepen people-to-people connections and strengthen the EU’s global engagement.
Rapelang Radebe- an EUVP alumnus, urged local media to better define its role and invest in continuous learning. He dismissed fears of European colonialism but, acknowledged a sincere and growing concern in Europe regarding Africa’s development trajectory.
