The government is working tirelessly to empower young people across all sectors, to help them achieve their aspirations for the future.
This assurance came from the Minister of Environment and Forestry Mr. Letsema Adontsi, during the recent World Population Day commemoration held in Mokhotlong.
Minister Adontsi highlighted the crucial timing of the event noting that, Mokhotlong district is grappling with high rates of teenage pregnancy, leading to increased school dropouts and child marriages. He emphasised the government’s commitment to prioritizing youth support in the region stating that, urgent steps are being taken to promote and improve the lives of young people.
Speaking at the same event, United Nations Population Fund’s Representative Mr. Innocent Modisaotsile reiterated the United Nations’ ongoing commitment to investing in comprehensive sexuality education, youth-friendly health services, and combating gender-based violence in Lesotho. He urged all relevant stakeholders to collaborate; aiming to provide Lesotho’s youth with the knowledge, power, and freedom necessary to shape their own destinies, choose their life partners, and live in a world that honours their rights and nurtures their aspirations.
