The Commissioner of police Borotho Matsoso has delivered a strong statement on behalf of national security agencies, addressing the current state of security and recent unlawful acts, posing a threat to the country’s peace and stability. COMPOL Matsoso made his remarks during a press briefing at police headquarters in Maseru this afternoon.
Matsoso explained that, security agencies have observed a concerning trend: a growing mobilization by various groups, both inside and outside Lesotho, which appear to be orchestrating activities designed to undermine national peace and social cohesion. He specifically highlighted the emergence of a group calling itself “Malata Naha which is allegedly recruiting Basotho youth from within the country and abroad, to undergo what is described as military training at certain farms in SA.
The Commissioner emphasized that, such conduct is clearly unlawful and appears to be part of an effort to incite insurrection against the government, with unsettling signs of external support from foreign entities.
Commissioner Matsoso concluded by issuing a stern warning: urging all those involved in these actions to stop immediately. He reiterated that, security agencies are fully prepared to take strong measures against anyone participating in activities that disturb and undermine the peace of the nation.
