A total of 539 vulnerable families in Butha-Buthe are set to receive food supplies as part of the ongoing food distribution campaign recently launched by the District Management Authority

According to a DMA Officer Mr. Phano Ntene said while 539 households have been identified to receive food aid, the assistance will reach around 21,359 vulnerable individuals, based on household numbers.

He said all five councils in the district will benefit from this 31-day food distribution exercise, which runs until the 15th next month, working closely with community leaders who will identify vulnerable families within their areas

The food being distributed was purchased from local farmers in a two-phased campaign by the DMA, particularly procurement of maize is expected to end on Friday

Councillor Seetsanyane Moleko of Makopo highlighted the importance of the support, particularly following the end of government programmes such as Lesupa-tsela and Tsoha-o-iketsetse, which previously helped assist many households

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Malethaha Lethaha, expressed gratitude, saying it will mainly assist the most vulnerable who also do not own fields to produce their own food
