WHO says, Africa must urgently protect hard-won gains against HIV amid a rapidly changing global funding landscape that threatens to slow progress

In a message commemorating the Day, WHO Regional Director for Africa, Mohamed Janabi, says this year’s theme, reflects the region’s growing vulnerability. He warned that misinformation remains a significant barrier to ending AIDS, arguing that it can be as dangerous as service disruption

Janabi called for collective efforts to protect scientific integrity, promote evidence-based policies and strengthen community engagement

The United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres says, the world has the power to transform lives and futures, and end the AIDS epidemic.Guterres said, the progress the world has made is undeniable as new infections have fallen by 40%

He said AIDS-related deaths have declined by more than half and access to treatment is far better. However, many people around the world still struggle to access this treatment

Lesotho has made notable improvements;

According to UNAIDS statistics, the country has seen a significant drop of 60% AIDS-related deaths, between 2010 and last year, although emerging mother-to-child transmissions still remain a challenge
