Speaking at the national commemoration of World AIDS Day at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre, Ms. Chikukwa announced that, Lesotho has achieved an 83% reduction in new HIV infections.

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS Country Director, Ms. Pepukai Chikukwa, has reported a notable improvement in Lesotho’s fight against the pandemic.

Speaking at the national commemoration of World AIDS Day at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre, Ms. Chikukwa announced that, Lesotho has achieved an 83% reduction in new HIV infections.

This places Lesotho firmly on track toward the global 2030 target of achieving a 90% reduction in new HIV infections.

However, Ms. Chikukwa also sounded a global warning, noting that, an estimated 44 million AIDS-related deaths have been reported worldwide. She underscored the risk posed by international aid-cuts warning, they could potentially reverse decades of progress achieved in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.
