The first-ever Moyeni Athletics Marathon, sponsored by various banks, was inaugurated last Saturday in Quthing, with over 250 participants from different districts across the country.
Organized by the Hillbusterz Athletics Club in collaboration with Kubung Hotel, the event was funded with M250,000. Organizers plan for the marathon to become an annual fixture, aimed at encouraging youth participation in athletics and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Races were held across 5 km, 10 km and 21 km distances. Winners in the men’s, women’s, and junior categories received cash prizes ranging from M500 to M2,500 and gold medals, while all participants were awarded medals in recognition of their efforts.
Speaking at the award ceremony held at Liphakoe football ground in Upper Moyeni, Quthing District Police Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of Police Seabata Tutuoane-who also ran the race, emphasised the marathon’s crucial role in promoting good health and keeping young people engaged, in positive activities.
