The Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Mathibeli Mokhothu has announced that he will lead a delegation to South Africa to meet with President Cyril Ramaphosa over the arrests of members of the Lesotho Defense Force in the country as well as the arrest of members of the South African National Defense Force and border officials in Lesotho.

Last week Lesotho police arrested two members of the South African National Defense Force and two border officials for allegedly entering Lesotho without required documentation for purposes of filling up petrol. Last month South Africa detained two Lesotho Defense Force soldiers who were allegedly pursuing livestock thieves into South Africa without documentation.

On his Twitter account, Mokhothu says the aim of the meeting is to discuss an amicable solution to the tension created by the arrests.

Borders between Lesotho and South Africa have been closed in an attempt to stem out the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
