The Traffic Commissioner Mrs. Mathabo Ts’osane has confirmed that the traffic department has halted for some time issuance of number plates.

Ts’osane said this on PCFM this morning where she explained that the decision was reached to tighten security for the new number plates by inserting a hologram. She said the department is on the journey to use internet services to develop services and it has successfully managed to use it for number plates and they have realized that the law requires that number plates should have a hologram for security purposes and that is why they stopped issuing them.

Ts’osane said the hologram is the responsibility of the traffic department not the contractor who has been given work to produce plates, that is why they have stopped issuing them while they work on the hologram issue and Basotho must understand that registration for new number plates is on-going  and they will receive temporary licenses until all things have been sorted.
